akemashite omedettou gozaimasu,
hau’oli makahiki hou!
happy new year, heARTists and heART lovers everywhere!
it’s the 8th day of the 1st month of the new year and time for more heARTwork by Yuri.
as you know, Yuri was a WWII Japanese war bride, and this monthly blog is about her incredible artistry throughout her lifetime. we began it by posting samples of her oil paintings, wood carvings, cut paper sculpture and origami, mask-making, crocheting, knitting, quilting and sewing; and, so much more.
however, we’re now experiencing time constraints as we complete our documentary, War Brides of Japan. this film is not just about Yuri, but includes other women like her who married American GI’s and moved to the U.S. during a time of extreme anti-Japanese hysteria in America.
since it’s obvious we’ll be busy with this project for the next several months, we'll discontinue displaying Yuri's art except for in small doses as time allows.
arrigatou for your understanding!
and, please see all the links for War Brides of Japan in last month’s post, below.
although she was a dog person (posing here with her beloved Muffin between two of her paintings), Yuri loved to create cats, too. please enjoy these two cat paintings and, apologies for not having any roosters for the upcoming year. however, you can view more of Yuri's paintings here:
ja!
